Documentación WebAbility® Network [Página principal]
Installation: ( /WebAbility/installation )

I. System requirements

In order to have WebAbility® to work, you will need a server with:
- Windows, Linux, Unix* or Mac
- WebServer, Apache 2.2 preferred. We did not try to make it work on other webservers for now.
- PHP 5.3 or superior, with modules installed: GD, XML, Database connector
- A database:
Free Edition is compatible only with MySQL 4 or superior
Monosite and Enterprise Editions are natively compatible with MySQL, PostGreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle for the repository, and can connect also to Informix, DB2, Ingres, SQLite, via ODBC, PDO or native connector.

II. Important Considerations

WebAbility® will install 3 sites: 2 administration sites and one public/application site

Free Edition:
- It will automatically install the 3 sites in the same directory and are accesible with the same unique URL.
- It is only compatible with MySQL 4, 5 or superior
- It may be installed in any panel interfase, like CPanel, Plesk, Ensim or others
- The WebAbility does not install the database, you have to create it beforehands with its user access and password

Monosite and Enterprise Editions:
- They may be used on the same directory/URL but are highly recommended to be installed on 3 separated directories and URLs for security purpose.
- The repository and the sites directories may be installed on separated mouted hard disks to avoid disk contention.
- It is only compatible with any commercial database suported by PHP 5.3
- It may be installed in any panel interfase, like CPanel, Plesk, Ensim or others
- The WebAbility does not install the database, you have to create it beforehands with its user access and password

III. Installation

1. Download the Free Edition from http://www.webability.info/?P=wa_download , or purchase any commercial licence.

Check the turorials videos:

3.1. Free Edition installation:

The downloaded file name is:
wafree.5.xx.yy.tar.gz where xx and yy are subversion and patch

1. Unzip/Untar the file into the directory of your choice. This directory MUST NOT be published in internet.
It is usual to put the WebAbility in the father directory of the published one

The unzipping will create 4 subdirectories with all the application inside
./components contains the client side code, templates and languages
./include contains the PHP WebAbility® application
./cartridges contains the installable modules
./stage contains the upgrade stage
and 3 files: install.php, readme.txt, install.txt

Create a fifth directory named repository at the same level of your published site

For instance, if your internet directory is /var/www/html, put the WebAbility into /var/www
unzip the application then create /var/www/repository
You will obtain:
/var/www/include
/var/www/components
/var/www/cartridges
/var/www/stage
/var/www/html
/var/www/repository
/var/www/install.php
/var/www/readme.txt
/var/www/install.txt

BE SURE THE APACHE/PHP HAS FULL ACCESS RIGHTS (READ/WRITE) ON ALL THOSE DIRECTORIES AND FILES INTO THEM

If you have access to the apache configuration and directory structure, we recommend to put the webability into
/home/sites/nameoryoursite.com
and create the site subdirectory /home/sites/nameoryoursite.com/site, and finally link the Apache with this directory.

Examples:

On Ensim, the typical installation would be

/home/virtual/yoursite.com/var/www/ is the base of the WebAbility (unzip here the files)
/home/virtual/yoursite.com/var/www/html is the published site, master (install.php here)
/home/virtual/yoursite.com/var/www/repository is the data repository directory (you have to create it)
/home/virtual/yoursite.com/var/www/include is a WebAbility application directory
/home/virtual/yoursite.com/var/www/components is a WebAbility application directory
/home/virtual/yoursite.com/var/www/cartridges is a WebAbility application directory
/home/virtual/yoursite.com/var/www/stage is a WebAbility application directory
(Note: if you are a user of ensim, you generally do not see the virtual site jail /home/virtual/yoursite.com/ )

On CPanel, the typical installation would be

/home/yoursite/ is the base of the WebAbility (unzip here the files)
/home/yoursite/public_html is the published site, master (install.php here)
/home/yoursite/repository is the data repository directory (you have to create it)
/home/yoursite/include is a WebAbility application directory
/home/yoursite/components is a WebAbility application directory
/home/yoursite/cartridges is a WebAbility application directory
/home/yoursite/stage is a WebAbility application directory

On a proprietary server, we recommend the following structure:

/home/sites/yoursite.com/ is the base of the WebAbility (unzip here the files)
/home/sites/yoursite.com/site is the published site, master (install.php here) (link Apache here)
/home/sites/yoursite.com/repository is the data repository directory (you have to create it)
/home/sites/yoursite.com/include is a WebAbility application directory
/home/sites/yoursite.com/components is a WebAbility application directory
/home/sites/yoursite.com/cartridges is a WebAbility application directory
/home/sites/yoursite.com/stage is a WebAbility application directory

2. Once you have unzipped the files into your base directory, there must be a file called install.php
Copy this file to the public html directory. This site will be the master site, shared with admin and public site

3. Connect to your site by web and type in your URL
http://yoursite.com/install.php
yoursite.com is the name of your apache visible domain site.

Note: Published site (/site), repository data (/repository) and the webability base directory are totally independant.
If you choose to create and put the directories anywhere in your server and the install.php could not find them, it will ask you to capture them manually, and then verify that the apache user can access them.

4. Follow the on-screen steps
